Fall Wish List

It is almost October, and definitely fall in my neck of the woods. Since my birthday is coming up in a few weeks I have already been asked if there is anything I want. You would think there is nothing left on my wish list after getting married, but rearranging the house and getting a new job has revealed a few little needs/wants for both me and the home. Here are a few pretty things I love right now.

- This amazing nightstand by Augustav would be perfect. But since it is sold out...

- A more realistic wish: 4 Enudden shelves from IKEA to fit our small bedroom

- Yoga Blocks and a Yoga strap would be very helpful

- A pair of shoes that are comfortable for walking

- A classic chambray/denim shirt

- Table settings in our fine china Anmut Platinum

- Sturdier dining room chairs. But I have no idea which ones...

- And pretty flowers. Always. Picture by Jose Villa.

A longing fulfilled is a tree of life

Many many moons ago I joined a book club, and when I convinced my friend to join as well, I got a cooking kit from said book club as a thank you gift. I still use the pots and pans, and they work fine. This must be at least 9 years ago, since I remember unpacking and using these things in my apartment in Oslo as a student from 2004-2005. There was also a hand blander in this kit (or perhaps it was from the baking kit from the same book club? I cant remember.)

While cleaning my cupboards earlier this year, I got rid of this mixer. The blades were dull and I never used the handheld whisk since I had another (better) one for that purpose. Since I had an ordinary blender I thought I would be fine. That was until the end of May, when my cheap 4,5 year old blender suddenly died in the middle of making a smoothie...

Fast forward 5 months, and imagine my excitement when unwrapping a brand new Braun hand blender at my birthday party! It is such a joy to have friends who know me well and give good gifts. It also a greater pleasure to receive something I have been wanting for a long time. If you haven´t made a wish list yet, I warmly recommend it.

October wishlist

October is my birthday month, and inspired by one of the Stop Shop bloggers I am making a wish list. Christmas is right around the corner as well, and if I am very lucky, I might be the owner of one of these pretty/useful things:

- Yarn to knit this pretty sweater from Pickles. If only I could decide on a color...

- A pretty letter in the mail.

- Low rubber boots.

- A new book on food and cooking, for example this one by Ann Mah.

- Earrings for my bunad (Norwegian folk custome).

- Good coffee.

- Coffee pot for my Moccamaster. The one I have has mysteriously cracked.

- A Kelim or other rug for the living room/dining room.

- A blender

Fall wishlist

Fall wishlist

Fall is such a beautiful time! October is also my birthday, and even though I have just about everything a girl could need, it is still fun to put together a little wish list. This is the first time I use polyvore, and I dont know why I havent tried this before! Easy as pie to put together a collage of stuff you like.

Back to my wish list: warm cozy sweaters, comfortable t-shirts, a rug, blankets and rain boots to keep me warm and dry, a new perfume, and a coffee table for all that indoor time!

Midnight in Paris

Who wouldnt want to go to a party with the Hemingways, go to a surrealist wedding or meet Salvador Dali at a cafe? "Midnight in Paris" was a good ending to a lovely weekend with my sisters, and now I wonder what the results will be at the Oscars tonight, both for this one and all the others. I have yet to see "The Artist", I dont even know if it will be in the theatre in this smallish town (for movies at least), but it is on my list. Any favorite nominees?

Wishing you a lovely week ahead!
(and that I will sleep off this little cold I caught...)

What would life be without coffee?

Those who know me know that I love coffee. A lot.
A friend came by my apartment for the first time the other day,
and brought this print as a house warming gift - so sweet!

I posted about a giveaway of this print at the Lidyll blog on facebook,
and she picked it up and ordered one for me! The artist, Jan Skacelik, has an etsy store where you can do some shopping of your own if you like the style.

PS. I chose this picture intentionally.
What you see in the bottom left corner is not glare from my camera flash,
but real sun rays, and I am super-excited to have them in my house again!

PPS. My giveaway is open till Monday, so it is not too late to sign up.

The Art of Deduction

Print by the Owl´s Love Nest

I think I am crushing on a detective. Today I brought the complete adventures of Sherlock Holmes back from the library (and mentally adding it to my wish list, but in the original language) and convinced some friends to watch an episode of the BBC series with a modern day Holmes and Watson. This consulting detective is highly fascinating, my first encounter with him can be read here, and my interest seems to grow, rather than diminish. And I am so glad NRK  has the show available online and for free, I am liking the state channel more and more these days. And if you like books in general, you can check out my friend Mike´s blog, for posts on novels, book covers, poetry and the like.

The Sherlock print can be bought here on etsy. Speaking of prints, I have a stack of them ready to be framed, and can´t wait to hang them around the house! I promise to share the result when I am done.

IKEA adventures

One early winter morning three YWAM Skien ladies drive to IKEA on an interior mission. Some of the new rooms at the base needed furniture, and we were more than happy to go on a little road trip. Of course we found time for some shopping of our own, but let me tell you, there wasn´t room for one more thing in that car! I loved jigsaw puzzles when I was a child, and that skill still comes in handy sometimes.

Even though I got almost what I had a on my list, some new things were added. We bought a couple of the Poäng chairs in black for the base, and I started liking this chair. I think it would fit in my living room, so I will put it on the wish list.

One of these wouldn´t hurt in the kitchen.

And you can never get enough storage, right?

My purchases will have to wait, most of them are going towards my new guestroom/office when my roommate moves out in February. We also found time to stop by Stoff og Stil (fabric store) where I got leather needles. I have some projects in my head, and now I´ve got everything I need to start!

Put the lights on the tree

We got a couple of days of winter wonderland and I made sure I took in the sight. I wish it would stay like this, but that would take a miracle.

It is time to decorate the tree. In this house we wait till the 23rd with the Christmas decoration, and I will not let it happen before! And with that I can finally say:

Merry Christmas my friends!!

On a slightly different note;
here is an obscure Christmas cartoon by mr. Stevens.

Let there be light

The other day I got some more of these in the house, and I am quite excited about it!  It is great to know electricians - thank you so much Christer!!

More outlets means many new options for decorating with light and rearranging, and I look forward to trying new things around the house. Im very happy to cross this off my to-do list, now if only I knew a plumber...

Longing for light

The weather is grey, dreary and rainy, and when I ventured outside the house, it felt like being in a small storm. Im glad I can stay inside, but keep looking around the web for some more light. I love industrial lamps, like these from Swedish In My House

This issue of Studio magazine has a special focus on lamps as well. You can check them out here, but will have to go to the store to get the full stories. In Norwegian only, but everyone can enjoy pictures, right?

Dear Santa

I love my new white chair, but I would love to add a rocking chair to my seating arrangement as well. Today I stumbled upon this amazing giveaway of two of these pretty ones:

The Eames name should be enough to want this in my living room, and I must say I like it a lot.

For a chance to win yourself, check out Studio magazine here.

Baby, its cold outside

And I need (and want) a new pair of winter shoes.
Here are some I will put on my wish list:

I am not sure if I dare to order shoes online though, I want to try them on first...

Any other suggestions for comfortable and WARM winter boots that arent UGGs?

Oh, and yes, we watched Elf the other day :)

Like a cloud on a summer day

I want one.

Not very wintery or Christmasy, but I stumbled upon it and liked it very much.
From tonight on I have TWO WHOLE weeks of Christmas break. I cant believe it!
I look forward to eat, relax, sleep, read a book or two, hang out with the family, go to church, do all the Christmas things we always do and just be HOME.

Some lovely things

I am feeling crafty these days, and here is some of the inspiration I have found lately:

A coffee cup necklace from this store. Could it be more perfect?

Fun collections - every day! See them here.

The Uniform Project Year 2 has 1 pilot each month, with a a new dress and a new cause to support each. These ladies are so creative! Especially this month, Angie surprises me every day with her use of the dress. I think I need a versatile black dress soon...

Beautiful felt slippers for cold winter days.

What has inspired you lately?
Enjoy your Sunday!
