DIY: Heather Wreath for Fall

I love to bring a little piece of nature inside, so while out on a hike the other day I picked some whortleberry heather (tyttebærlyng) to make a small wreath.

Materials: Heather, moss and dirt from the woods.

Trim the heather, discard the moss and dirt and bugs that came with it.

Use wire to make a circle the size you want your wreath.

Attach small bunches with wire. I used three little twigs in each bunch.

Continue wrapping and adding more heather all around the circle.

Decorate with pine cones if you´d like, and hang it on the wall.

Summer flashback

I dont know how many times I have mentioned my missing camera cord, so when it finally arrived in the mail this week I was overjoyed, until the moment I realized it was not the right size battery charger... The good news is that the card reader works, so here are some pictures from my summer holiday in the States.

2. A cool door downtown Denver

3. Saint Mary´s Glacier and some ominous skies

4. The view from the glacier, on the same trip...

Joy

"Man is more himself, man is more manlike,
when joy is the fundamental thing in him, and grief is superficial.
Melancholy should be an innocent interlude,
a tender and fugitive frame of mind;
praise should be the permanent pulsation of the soul.
pessimism is at best an emotional half-holiday;
joy is is the uproarious labour by which all things live. "

G.K. Chesterton,
Orthodoxy

From the mountain tops

The view from Blåfjell just after a massive downpour.

Where I come from, we would call them hills... I still like them, and especially the forest that leads to them!

Titoppern in Grenland is an initiative to explore more of the nature in our local area. To complete the challenge, you must hike at least 10 trips in the season, starting in May and ending in October. Britt Solveig and I didnt decide to do this until July, and with her very busy schedule, we realize we are in a tight spot. Nonetheless, we hope to reach our goal, and have really enjoyed the forest, hills, views, lakes and blueberries so far.

Happy weekend!

Untitled

What are you up to this weekend?
I have plans to relax, hike, be creative and perhaps bake.
Sounds like a perfect little break to me!

The traveller has returned

After a couple of weeks of blog break it is hard to know where to start. Should I write about hiking and nature, great food, magical music or the exceptional Denver heat?? I´ll start of with a view of the mountains. They are truly gorgeous!

From the Denver skyline.

To the Denver outback.

Look at that! Mt. Bierstadt, one of the Fourteeners.

If you dont believe I climbed it, here is the proof.
Days later, we still couldnt believe we did it either...
And just for the record, 14,060 feet is 4285 meters.

PS. You can also head on over to Lyndee´s blog to see a different perspective on some of our adventures.

"Winter" wonderland

In the woods, two days ago.
It felt like spring was right around the corner!
Oh well, pretty weather like this in Bergen should be appreciated no matter the season.

Update: Everything is covered in white by now, and the afternoon was spent throwing snowballs at my siblings... You cant really rely on the weather here on the west coast.
